POWER
The vertical blind controller operates on 4 “AA” size alkaline batteries. The battery compartment is located at the rear of the unit. Insert the 4 “AA” batteries, observing the individual polarity marking for each battery. When the batteries are nearing the end of there useful life the battery symbol will be periodically displayed on the LCD display (shown below). Remove batteries when exhausted or when the unit is not intended to be used for an extended period.
OPERATING THE BLIND
The LCD display will automatically turn itself off after 1 minute of inactivity to conserve battery life. Pressing any of the buttons will turn the display on again. Pressing and holding the “<” button will tilt the blind in one direction. Pressing and holding the “>” button will tilt the blind in the opposite direction. If the “<” button is momentarily pressed the blind will close the blind. If the “>” button is momentarily pressed then the blind will close and then open to the angle determined by the delay time set (as set in step 4). This is useful to test the position of the blinds when the timer is set to on. To change the direction of the close position press “<” and “>” buttons together and three bleeps will be heard and the display below will be shown momentarily. The open “<” and close “>” buttons will now turn the blades in the opposite direction.
The child lock can be used to disable the buttons, this is recommended when the unit is within reach of small children. To activate the child lock press and hold the “Set” button while not in the SET mode for 5 seconds until three bleeps are heard. The display will now show the key symbol shown below. Repeat the process to remove the child lock.
1) TO SET THE TIME
All time settings are based on a 24 hour clock. Press the “Set” button once, the clock symbol will now be displayed. The time can now be set by pressing the “<” button to change the hour and the “>” button to change the minutes. To continue press the “Set” button to go to the next mode setting.
2) TO SET THE OPEN TIME
The display will now be as shown below. The open time can now be set by pressing the “<” button to change the hour and the “>” button to change the minutes. To continue press the “Set” button to go to the next mode setting.
3) TO SET THE CLOSE TIME
The display will now be as shown below. The close time can now be set by pressing the “<” button to change the hour and the “>” button to change the minutes. To continue press the “Set” button to go to the next mode setting.
4) TO SET THE OPEN DELAY (TILT)
The display will now be as below with the number shown in seconds. This is the time the blades of the blind will be turned which will result in the blind angle when open. The number of seconds can be altered by pressing the “<” button to increment the number of seconds or the “>” button to decrement the number of seconds. To continue press the “Set” button to go to the next mode setting.
5) TO SET TIMER ACTIVE
This needs to be set to “On” for automatic operation.
The display will show either “On” or “OFF” on the LCD display. This can be changed by pressing the “<” or “>” buttons. To continue press the “Set” button to go to the next mode setting below.
6) TO SET RANDOM MODE
This setting is useful when you go on holiday or are away from home so that your blind will not open and close at exactly the same time each day. When random mode is on the open and close times will vary randomly from 0-30 minutes after the set times. The display will again show either “On” or “OFF” on the LCD display. This can be changed by pressing the “<” or “>” button. The timer also needs to be set to “On” for random mode to operate.
Pressing “Set” once more will take you out of set mode into normal operating mode and the time will again be displayed. If no key is pressed for 50 seconds then set mode will automatically switch back to normal operating mode.
If the timer has been set to on then “TIMER” will be displayed and also if random mode has been set to on “RND” will also be displayed.
SETTING THE SECOND (SUN) OPEN TIME AND TILT ANGLE
This setting is useful when at some point in the day the sun is very bright and you want your blind tilted to a different position. To get into the second open time press and hold the “Set” button and then the “>” button now release the “Set” button still holding the “>” button. The display should now be as shown below. The time can now be adjusted using the “<” or “>” buttons in the same manner as before. Setting the time to 00:00 turns off the second open time. Note that random mode will not alter this time.
Pressing “Set” again now takes you to the second tilt time. Press the “<” or “>” button to increment or decrement the number of seconds.
Pressing “Set” again will now take you out of set mode. If the second open time is enabled the sun symbol will be shown.
INSTALLATION INTRUCTIONS
Ensure you have obtained the correct controller for your vertical blind. There are two types available, type A and type B. The type A model (wheel on the right of unit) is for blinds with the chain on the left hand side of the window and the type B model (wheel on the left of unit) is for chains on the right hand side of the window.
STEP 1
The illustration above shows a type B controller which can be fitted to the window in the positions shown above.
WARNING! It may be necessary to shorten the chain so as to keep the controller out of reach of small children and pets. This can usually be done if the chain is fitted with a link. The chain could also be cut shorter to obtain a better position for the controller.
The vertical blind controller is held in position using the thumb screw and round head screw provided.
Hold the controller in position on the wall with the chain over the wheel (Do not add tension to the chain). Now mark the wall at the mid position of the U bracket on the bottom of the controller as shown on the diagram below.
STEP 2
SECOND HOLE
145mm
FIRST HOLE
Remove the controller from the wall and make a second mark 145mm above the first mark. You now have the two positions for the wall plugs. Drill the two holes using a number 10 drill bit and insert the wall plugs.
STEP 3
Screw the round head screw into the top hole leaving a gap of 3mm from the wall.
STEP 4
The controller can now be slotted into position over the round head screw and the thumb screw used to hold the unit in position.
ADJUSTING THE POWER
The power adjustment should not need to be altered as it will automatically adjust itself to the best setting. However on certain blinds it may need to be adjusted. To change the power setting press and hold the “Set” button and then the “<” button now release the “Set” button still holding the “<” button. The display should now be as shown below. The power can now be adjusted using the “<” or “>” buttons to either 1, 2 or 3. Note this will need to be set again when the batteries are replaced.
Harwood's Blinds will not be liable for incidental or consequential damages caused by misuse including but not limited to injury or damaged property.
